Bali

Ubud · Seminyak · Uluwatu

12 nights 3 bases April 6 – 18, 2026 8.60

Jungle temples, beach-club gold, and a cliff above the Indian Ocean

Three Balis in twelve unhurried nights: the misty river-jungle of Ubud, the long golden beach of Seminyak, and the limestone drama of Uluwatu's clifftops. April lands right as the dry season opens — clean skies, calm seas, terraces at their greenest — and the trip is built to peak at a single unforgettable evening: the Kecak fire dance at Pura Luhur Uluwatu as the sun sinks into the ocean.

The standout moment

Kecak fire dance at Pura Luhur Uluwatu, then a private clifftop dinner

18:00 dance start · 18:25 sunset over the Indian Ocean, dinner at 19:30

Arrive at the temple by 17:30 for the 18:00 performance, when a hundred bare-chested men chant "cak-cak-cak" in hypnotic waves on a stone amphitheatre carved seventy metres above the surf. As the Ramayana unfolds, the sun slides molten-orange into the Indian Ocean behind the dancers (~18:25), and the show climaxes with Hanuman leaping through a ring of fire against the last violet light. From there, a short drive to a reserved clifftop table — Single Fin's edge-of-the-world deck or a private set-up at your resort — for dinner at 19:30 with the waves still crashing far below in the dark.

  • 01

Book the Kecak for the second golden-hour vantage, and arrive by 17:30

The amphitheatre fills fast for the 18:00 show. Arrive by 17:30 and aim for the upper-right tiers facing the ocean so the sunset sits behind the dancers, not in your eyes. Buy tickets at least 3 days ahead — on-site tickets are hit-or-miss in peak weeks. The 18:00 slot (not the 19:00) is the one that catches the sun dropping into the sea.

At Four Seasons Sayan, ask for a river-view villa, not garden

The drama is the Ayung valley. River-view one-bedroom villas (and the suites along the lower terraces) put the jungle and water in front of your plunge pool; garden categories trade that view for proximity. Request a villa on the river side at booking and confirm again at check-in. The teak-bridge-into-lotus-pond arrival is worth timing for daylight.

Stow your sunglasses before Uluwatu temple — the monkeys are professionals

The macaques at Pura Luhur Uluwatu snatch glasses, phones, hats, and earrings, then 'trade' them back for food via the temple staff. Put everything loose into a zipped bag before you pass the gate, and don't try to retrieve a stolen item yourself — let a handler do it.

Single Fin's cliff edge is best on a non-Sunday for a romantic dinner

Single Fin is legendary for its Sunday-evening DJ sessions — which also means it's mobbed and loud. For an intimate clifftop dinner after the Kecak, go on a weeknight (Apr 15 is a Wednesday, which works) and request a railing table at the front for the surf-break view. The sunset window is roughly 18:00–18:30 in April.

Tirta Empul: go early and bring your own sarong + a change of clothes

The holy-spring purification ritual (melukat) is genuinely moving, but the bathing pools get crowded by mid-morning. Arrive at opening, bring a sarong and a dry change of clothes, and follow the spout order respectfully — skip the final two spouts, which are reserved for funeral rites. A guide makes the ritual far more meaningful.

Il Ristorante – Luca Fantin has only 36 seats — reserve well ahead

The Bvlgari fine-dining room is tiny and demand is high; lock your farewell-dinner reservation when you book the room, request a table by the reflection pool, and note the resort's smart-elegant dress code. It is the most refined dinner on the Bukit and the natural climax to the Uluwatu chapter.

Schedule every transfer for the morning

Bali's southbound roads toward Seminyak and Uluwatu seize up from about 16:00 to 19:00. Do all three inter-base moves before noon, and on Kecak night leave for the temple no later than 16:30 to absorb traffic. One pre-booked driver for the whole trip beats app taxis, which are banned or hassled in parts of Uluwatu and Ubud.

April is the sweet spot — but the first week can still spit rain

BMKG forecasts a drier-than-usual 2026 dry season, and April rainfall is roughly a third of March's. Still, jungle-cooled Ubud may see brief afternoon showers early in the month; the coast and cliffs clear fastest. Plan Ubud (and rafting) for the front of the trip and the beach/cliff bases for the back, as the calendar already does.
